Edward G. Lengel received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Virginia in 1998, and is now Professor and Editor-in-Chief of the Papers of George Washington documentary editing project at the University of Virginia. [He is the recipient of the National Humanities Medal for his work on the Papers of George Washington.]
 
In addition to editing several volumes of the Papers of George Washington, he has written six books, with four more on the way, and numerous articles for Military History in American Heritage Magazine (for which he is a regular columnist) and other publications. He has also made appearances on The History Channel, The National Geographic Channel, and other television channels.
 
His General George Washington: A Military Life (2005) was a Finalist for the 2006 George Washington Book Prize
